Scripture Focus
The spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free
Luke 4:18 (NIV) (https://www.bible.com/bible/111/LUK.4.18)
We have Good News in hard times! Jesus is here to heal the brokenhearted, set the captives free and give freedom to the oppressed. Reading this verse, I began to think about what it means to set a captive free. We may not feel as if we are oppressed or captive to anything. However, we must remember that we were captive to (and oppressed by) sin. When Jesus set us free, He gave us freedom from our sins, our addictions and temptations.
Life (as it stands right now) is very difficult. We hear about how others are oppressed, downtrodden and forgotten. Jesus is here to remind you today that he loves you and that he is giving you a gift that can never be equaled in value. It was a gift, that required an enormous sacrifice on his behalf. He did it so that you and I can be free. We may feel forgotten and downtrodden in the world. However, Jesus' gift reminds us that we are loved, remembered and precious in his eyes.
We must understand that God is for us. We do not have to face these hard times alone. We are all overwhelmed and fatigued with everything that's going on around us. It is hard to see past our circumstances. However, if we focus on how God is for us, He will carry us through these tough times.
Let us pray.
Heavenly Father,
We thank you for everyone reading this blog right now. We pray that they may be able to have Your Grace during these difficult times. We pray that You would empower them with the power of your Holy Spirit. Give us the grace to focus on You and not on our circumstances. We pray for everyone going through difficult times - that You would give us your healing, comfort, peace, grace and rest.
Help us to understand your presence in our lives. Help us to seek you more than ever in these times.
We love you Lord and we ask all these things in Jesus name.
Amen.
